eisbrecher_schock

I forgot who uttered the quote but I was reading an interview when Rammstein entered the scene in the mid-‘9o’s and a band member was asked why they prefer to sing in German rather than in English to which they likened the experience to listening to AC/DC growing up and not understanding the words but feeling the impact of the music just the same. My first exposure to Oakland’s Machine Head was waaaaay back in 1994 when the now classic Burn My Eyes was released. I was on the Roadrunner Records mailing list and occasionally got postcards about new releases (Yes, regular old snail mail used to inform people about new music). [Read more…]

Christopher Hall: A Rock And Roll Fables Conversation

thedreaming-630x420

“I didn’t really have a vision for The Dreaming when we first started, just an urgent need to continue making music. If you listen to the progression of albums you will hear how the different members affected the sound dramatically. Jinxx from Black Veil Brides defined the sound of the 1st album (Etched In Blood) with his blazing fast guitar style. Carlton (Bost) took over on Puppet with his modern programming and heavy guitar and Walter (Flakus) brought back the sound he and I became known for on Rise Again.” [Read more…]

Releasing a new album in January is a bold fucking statement for any artist and there is no one bolder in modern rock than Marilyn Manson. It’s probably fitting that I’m just finishing Scott Ian’s autobiography (I’m The Man, out now and available here) when the news about the Anthrax guitarist’s latest project came across my desk. Like Mr. Ian, I learned about Jim Wilson and Mother Superior when they backed Henry Rollins on the Rollins Band album Get Some Go Again. Ian went a step further with Wilson by forming Motor Sister which also features Pearl Aday, John Tempesta, and Joey Vera in its ranks. [Read more…]

Sometimes the best music is that which you know nothing about beforehand. Take Abstracter for example. Promo came across my desk and like everything that comes across my desk, I gave it a solid listen. Guys and gals, I know we’re barely a week into the new year but hitting “play” on Wound Empire, the second release from Oakland’s Abstracter, is easily one of the best decisions I’ll have made all year. Guaranteed. [Read more…]
