While we haven’t had the opportunity to cover all the singles leading up to Boston/NYC hybrid outfit Eldridge Rodriguez’s latest LP, we’ve definitely covered a LOT. So diving into Atrophy is like a trip down memory lane to an extent with some of its’ 12 tracks appearing as far back as 2021 (“Megalodon” as part of the “Alice Drills” release) and others debuting throughout 2022 (“Have I Gone Too Far”, “Scars in the Vein”) for a familiar affair that’s more focused than ever before.

Some times we get an abundance of stuff to review (Okay, all the time) and while it may take some time, if there’s a band that’s on our radar we’ll make sure we make the effort to review it regardless of if the fabled release date has passed. Boston/NYC hybrid Eldridge Rodriguez is one of those outfits that always makes that list and while we were already hyped for their upcoming new album (Atrophy, due in September, and praised previously without hearing a note in our 2023 preview list here), we’re more hyped that the first single is here and is every bit as awesome as we could’ve anticipated it being.

Eldridge Rodriguez is one of those artists that you either love… or ya love? Right?!?! Like, how can you say you love music if you don’t get one of the undisputed greats?!?! It makes no sense. And we might be biased because our home base is around their home base but we’re pretty sure that if we were on the West Coast or in another country we’d still love what Eldridge Rodriguez do so very well on the regular.

Already popping up as one of our most anticipated releases of this here new year, Boston/NYC quartet Eldridge Rodriguez is making a splash early in 2022 with the release of a pair of new songs that bridge the gap between 2020’s brilliant Slightest Of Treason album and what’s to come later this year on that aforementioned next full-length.

I started 2021 by winning a pair of Hot Ones Reebok sneaks and the promise that live shows might actually happen again. And then people kept being stupid and live music is still in a state of flux…and I still haven’t worn those kicks outside yet. But through it all, stellar music continues to drop. Like the latest singles from Eldridge Rodriguez which, in a slight departure from last year’s stunning Slightest Of Treason full-length, sees the quartet treading new sonic territory.
But I digress.

It’s too early into 2020 to declare a record one of the best of the year, yeah? Well, if it’s not uncouth to do so then I’d like to submit the long awaited new full-length from Boston’s Eldridge Rodriguez as worthy of those kinds of accolades. It’s been five years since Eldridge Rodriguez delivered a new full-length and in that time personal conflict, as well as living in a world with a political climate that is so absolutely toxic that one is constantly gasping for air, has provided the necessary fuel for a fire that burns bright throughout Slightest of Treason. It’s an emotional sonic rollercoaster of a record and a journey that music fans of all kinds will gladly take.

I picture “So Hard”, the latest and greatest single from Boston’s Eldridge Rodriguez, in a John Hughes or some other coming of age dramedy where the main character has a great revelation about their feelings for a girl or a boy. And there’s running. And probably a montage. And maybe some rain. [Read more…]
Eldridge Rodriguez Hit O’Brien’s On July 15th! Don’t Miss it! Also, Read This Post!
Disclaimer! This review was spurred on solely by the fact that I won’t be able to experience the “Rodriguez” live on July 15th in person (Goddamn you, family obligations!!!) and needed some place to vent and get as many of you to pay attention and, hopefully, go in my stead. This was also spurred on by the fact that Eldridge Rodriguez is awesome and deserve your attention.
But I digress.
