Sumo Cyco is the sound of No Doubt fronted by Tairrie B. They’re heavy, they’re trendy, they’re genre-bending yet accessible and on Initiation, the Canadian quartet create the definitive Sumo Cyco album that cuts to the core of who they are and streamline their sound to bring listeners their best release yet.

As a massive fan, I try to limit how often I throw out comparisons to Kyuss (And, to a lesser extent, Queens of the Stone Age) but with Greenleaf, it’s kinda hard not to as it’s rightly deserved. “Good God I Better Run Away” in particular is like this ferocious forging of Kyuss’ Desert-soaked fuzz and Hermano’s honed wall of sound with Josh Homme’s velveteen voice as is opener “Tides” which has guitarist Tommi Holappa rippin’ it up like Homme used to during his early days. And now that that’s out of the way let’s get to the rest of Echoes From A Mass, shall we?

Like Exodus and Venom Prison throwing down, Nervosa triumph with this collision of old school Thrash and new school techniques. On Perpetual Chaos, the Brazilian quartet master the METAL even more with a record that’s both thrilling and thoughtful.

Let’s be honest: This is probably the most important DevilDriver record since their debut dropped back in 2002. Luckily, DevilDriver has both the experience and the chops almost 20 years into their career that not only maintains and sustains but also still entertains the hell out of listeners with a new record that sounds like that band once dubbed Deathride who were furiously fighting to further themselves from a certain Spookycore outfit.

Pressing play on any number of music that crosses my digital desk is, to be blunt, a crap shoot which presents just as many risks (To my ears) as it does rewards (Again, to my ears). Which brings us to Austin, Texas’ Hinayana who deliver humongous aural rewards (To my ears AND yours) when it comes to their upcoming EP, Death Of The Cosmic.

In an age where there ain’t nobody going to a concert anytime soon (In the States at least), it’s refreshing to live vicariously through past performances especially when it comes from such a legendary artist like the almighty Dee Snider. Two years after the former Twisted Sister vocalist’s furious return to all things METAL on the aptly titled studio effort For The Love Of Metal (Produced by Jamey Jasta and reviewed by us which you can read all about here), Snider is back with an audio and visual collection of live performances across the world in support of that record pieced together like one seamless performance featuring new bangers, old staples, and even a surprise or two.

There’s no artist quite like Dark Sarah traversing the Heavy music landscape today. On Grim, their fourth full-length, the Finnish quintet take their brand of Symphonic Metal, mash it with The Birthday Massacre-style Gothic Electro, Within Temptation’s grand presentation, and the twisted bits from Oingo Boingo or main man Danny Elfman’s cinematic score work to create an unholy story that’s as unique as it is utterly irresistible.

The appeal of Mushroomhead has always eluded me. They came into prosperity and notoriety around the time that Slipknot also began to thrive and, while I wasn’t actively choosing a side, I found myself aligning with the more complex and intense of the two masked outfits. What I missed out on then (But am making up for now!) was a different kind of complex, a different kind of intense and a whole lotta missed awesome.
