Tombs is an odd duck and an outfit that’s often overlooked and not nearly praised enough for constantly pushing the boundaries of their sonic palette. One moment you get straight up Post-something Metal from them then the next they’re merging Joy Division and Satyricon in interesting ways. Regardless, whatever Tombs puts out is guaranteed to be an interesting listen.

Upon reading the announcement of a new single from Boston’s War On Alexandria, I absent-mindedly favorited the track over on Spotify without even giving it a listen because what they’ve already accomplished with their small body of work thus far has instilled the kind of confidence to do just that. In fact! It’s that kind of blind trust I have in them that almost compelled me to compose this post solely on the merits of their previous work. But that wouldn’t be fair to them. Or you!

Listening through the five track magnum opus that is Impermanence by Boston’s SEA and I’m brought back to the last beast that Neurosis unleashed in 2016 and pondering how much can be said within a seemingly small amount of tracks. It also helps if the tracks within each of those fall on the gargantuan side once again proving: less is more!

It’s too early into 2020 to declare a record one of the best of the year, yeah? Well, if it’s not uncouth to do so then I’d like to submit the long awaited new full-length from Boston’s Eldridge Rodriguez as worthy of those kinds of accolades. It’s been five years since Eldridge Rodriguez delivered a new full-length and in that time personal conflict, as well as living in a world with a political climate that is so absolutely toxic that one is constantly gasping for air, has provided the necessary fuel for a fire that burns bright throughout Slightest of Treason. It’s an emotional sonic rollercoaster of a record and a journey that music fans of all kinds will gladly take.

If you were to take the experimental aesthetic of Duran Duran’s much maligned yet highly underrated Medazzaland and combine it with a current artist like Julien-K you might have an inkling of an idea of what to expect when traversing the New Wave meets Electro world of Black Sugar Transmission. The brainchild of Andee Blacksugar (KMFDM, Peter Murphy), Black Sugar Transmission return with the first of THREE planned releases this year and if the rest sound anything at all like Wandering Into The Bullseye does then music fans are in for quite the sonic treat in 2020.

If you’ve followed the trajectory of ÆGES then you’d know that they’ve become so much more than that band that featured that guy from Pelican that one time (Their debut, The Bridge, featured Pelican skinsman Larry Herweg in their ranks). And if you haven’t followed their trajectory then you know that, to put it plainly, ÆGES just rawk!
