Multi-instrumentalist Otto Kinzel (Dust Prophet, Skin Drone) has unleashed his most revealing body of work with the release of “I Bleed For You” which is available now.

Does it take away from the message when you describe something as heavy as High, Wasted Genes from Virginia’s Dead Friends as “fun”? Because it really is. Despite the pummeling riffs and the overall intensity, the five songs contained within their latest EP is definitely one helluva good time to be had by yer ears.

You can blame VOWWS for my newfound love of all things Poppy. As stated in our 2020 preview (Which you can conveniently read now by clicking here), I didn’t get “I Disagree” when it was released. At all. The music was all over the place and the accompanying video, while visually engaging, did nothing for me. Then I found out that VOWWS, whom I adore, was supporting Poppy on her European tour. And on her North American tour. Then I heard “BLOODMONEY”. And I was hooked.

If you live in Massachusetts, chances are that you’ve heard the one about whenever you turn on the nightly news you’re likely to find that something bad has happened in one of our many towns/cities starting with the letter “L”. You know what I’m talkin’ about! There’s Lawrence and Lancaster and Lynn and the birthplace of today’s artist of note, Lowell!
Which is probably why, when perusing Fatigue’s Bandcamp site you’ll see them described as “Dark, depressed synth-pop from a desolate mill city.” They know what I’m talkin’ about at least.

As the punchline to many a joke around the RNRF homestead, it’d be silly to think that when a band with a name like “Yur Mum” comes across our request desk they wouldn’t get the attention they so rightly and obviously deserve from us.

2020 has a lot going for it already with a slew of stellar albums dropping right at the start AND a year where Ozzy will release new material is a feat in itself. Also on the horizon beyond what we’ve listed below is a new beast from Rawk Gods Aeges (Review coming soon), more maniacal mayhem from Dog Fashion Disco, Megadeth’s triumphant return, and the original members of Static X reuniting to bring the late Wayne Static’s final recordings to light as a whole new full-length due this May. Hell, even Duran Duran will supposedly be back this spring with the follow up to 2015’s Paper Gods!
But I digress.

I was going to start this thing off with an additional list of “honorable mentions” so I could add EVERYTHING I wanted to include on this year end list but figured, if you regularly read this blog then you know that whatever gets featured here already has major heart eyes from its’ Editor-In-Chief so without further adieu, here’s the real meat and potatoes (Hyperlinks to our reviews are in the headers where applicable):

It takes a special kind of band to drag an old column out of mothballs and Australian power trio Eliza & The Delusionals is definitely that sort of band. Raw and rawkin’ and following up on their debut EP in 2017, this group is set to take on the US with their latest infectious offering “Just Exist”!

I can’t think of a better way to end the year than with a brand new album from Carissa Johnson. After a slew of new singles in 2019 featuring the full band, Johnson goes it alone and strips it all away with an earnest, introspective new full-length to close out a stellar year.
