Eventually this list is really going to be insane. But for now it’s manageable. Mostly. And we know we have control over it but something just clicks when the number of titles in the list is the same as the year, ya know? But anyway! We start a draft of this list essentially the moment we start getting promos for the next year… Actually, scratch that. The moment we get a promo that really resonates so by the end of the year, if the music world is doing its’ job then our list is pretty long which makes our job even harder and 2023 was no different.

It’s no secret that we love us some Will Haven over in the RNRF offices so it was a no brainer when the opportunity arose recently to chat via phone with one of the founders of WH, guitarist Jeff Irwin, about the longevity of the Sacramento outfit, the blistering new record, upcoming West Coast dates playing Carpe Diem all the way through and more! So won’t you please join us as as we dig deep and learn how this year’s Burning Man is the reason why some lucky fans will see bassist Mike Martin back in the fold for dates this summer and why Irwin is not likely to get recruited into Meshuggah anytime soon:

Our love for Sacramento Metal mavens Will Haven knows no bounds. We might sport a Carpe Diem-related tattoo and are seriously considering a trek across the country to finally see them live since, as we get older, the likelihood of WH playing the East Coast (Or MA specifically) while we’re still regularly attending Metal shows is getting more and more unlikely with each passing day. They were one of those bands where we bought into the hype from reading deftones articles in Kerrang!, quickly consumed what was available, didn’t get it, then subsequently bashed our head against a wall when Carpe Diem came around and changed our world.

Join us, won’t you?

Will Haven Deliver Best (And Hopefully Not Last?) Album To Date With Muerte
Sometimes to get a really accurate/real time feel for an album I’ll type notes in the drafts here as I’m listening through a record for the first time. Then there are other times where I’ll be so transfixed by what’s coming out of my speakers that I just can’t type anything. Sometimes in awe. Sometimes because of fear. A new Will Haven album usually takes up a healthy amount of both within my psyche because, on the one hand, the music they put forth is usually so spot on. So perfect. But on the other hand there’s the fear that whatever I type here won’t be able to properly convey how truly amazing the music Will Haven lay down is. [Read more…]

Will Haven Open The Mind To Discomfort On Latest Release (EP Review)
Quite simply, Will Haven’s latest EP is 23 minutes of metal bliss. Actually, don’t call Will Haven “metal”. They transcend the genre. 23 minutes of pure heavy music bliss is more like it. They’re back, baby! Sacramento’s heaviest sons return with an EP that will have longtime fans gagging for more and newfound friends asking themselves: “Why have I just NOW discovered this gem of a band?” [Read more…]
Will Haven Unleash “The Comet”, Prepare To Drop New EP This May
Any year that produces new music from Sacramento’s Will Haven is a good year in my book so the announcement that the band have signed a new deal with Artery Recordings and that a new EP is imminent means 2015 is going to be a really good year. [Read more…]
