Pulp Rawk: So Much For The 30 Year Plan: Therapy? The Authorised Biography By Simon Young

18 September 2020 By jesse Leave a Comment

A tale of drugs, in-fighting, insecurities, and in-depth stories on the songs and albums you love and more, Simon Young’s authorised biography of Therapy?, So Much For The 30 Year Plan, is an essential read for not only fans of the band but also for music aficionados who love a good yarn.

Pulp Rawk: Unfuckwithable: A Guide to Inspired Badassery By Lindsay Manfredi

I’m an avid reader but try to stay away from self-help books because they’re just not my thing. I do love autobiographies, though, so if you kind of merge the two then you have piqued my interest. Add that the author is from one of my all-time favorite bands and it’s pretty much a given that I’ma devour whatever is in those hallowed pages.

Pulp Rawk: Grace: Based on the Jeff Buckley Story

25 April 2019 By jesse Leave a Comment

Combining my two most favorite things, music and graphic arts, Grace: Based on the Jeff Buckley Story is a gorgeously illustrated and compelling tale weaving two narratives seamlessly into one epic tale written by Tiffanie DeBartolo.

Pulp Rawk: Queen: Album By Album By Martin Popoff

The year was 1992 and I was off with my best friend at the time and his Dad in their Saturn for a week long summer vacation to Sebago Lake, Maine and the soundtrack for the drive was Classic Queen on cassette. I already knew Queen from wearing out my parents 8-track of Flash Gordon and, of course, was familiar with all of their radio singles through my local rock stations at the time. But there was something about that mix, starting with “A Kind Of Magic” then jumping into “Bohemian Rhapsody” (Ridiculously overplayed in 1992 due to Wayne’s World but more on that later) and “Under Pressure”. Talk about a way to start a compilation! [Read more…]

Pulp Rawk: Lacuna Coil, Nothing Stands In Our Way

Rocket 88 does it again! Oh, you don’t know this fine publishing house of even finer rawk books and more? The publishing house that brought you the Devin Townsend biography? Books on Porcupine Tree and Opeth and Dinosaur Jr? An upcoming book on Devo??? More importantly, they’re the reason you’re sitting here reading about a book that you will soon hold in your hand about the greatest Italian heavy band of today. [Read more…]

Pulp Rawk: Iron Maiden: Album By Album By Martin Popoff

15 October 2018 By jesse Leave a Comment

Let’s get this out of the way first: I don’t like Iron Maiden. At all. In fact, in the great metal arguments of old I choose Megadeth over Metallica, Bush over Belladonna, and Judas Priest over Iron Maiden (Which is mentioned quite a bit in this book I’m about to mention). It’s just how I’m wired! That said, I respect the band and what they do. And even I can admit that “Number of the Beast” is a goddamn infectious metal anthem, although “Run to the Hills” still drives me bonkers. [Read more…]

Pulp Rawk: Small Victories: The True Story Of Faith No More By Adrian Harte

7 September 2018 By jesse Leave a Comment

The press release for Small Victories: The True Story Of Faith No More is quick to point out that, although the book isn’t an “official” biography of the band, it is endorsed by them going so far as to tout a quote from co-founder and bassist Bill Gould regarding the book and its’ author, Adrian Harte: “It’s a quality piece. The man has done his research, and it shows. It provided me with more than a few revelations… and I’m in the band.” [Read more…]
