We’ll admit that beyond knowing about a guest spot or two on some recent KMFDM outings, we knew little of Sweden’s Morlocks and that’s on us for not investigating more because once we FINALLY caught them live in 2024 (Again with KMFDM) we were hooked! That said, we were super psyched to learn that 2025 would bring about some new material from Morlocks fairly early on and even MORE psyched to find out we’d be able to hear it a little early. And we’re passing those savings onto you! Sorry, wrong spiel…
Anyway! Amor, Monstra Et Horrore Profundi is the name that lords over these 5 new sonic gems and it all starts with “The S.N.A.F.U. Principle v3.0” which is classic Morlocks through and through infused with the bands penchant for expertly crafted Industrial and Heavy Rawk anthems. “March of the Goblins”, on the other hand, would similarly sound at home when taken as a sea shanty but also something straight out of The Nightmare Before Christmas as it saunters on for an epic almost seven and a half minutes before giving way to the 2-part “The Lake”.
“The Lake pt I” is a sort of palette cleanser with nighttime sounds, cicadas chattering, and subtle strings that begin further in to segue nicely into the eventual grandness of “The Lake pt II” which is a gnarly epic that exceeds “March…” in length and scope even as it treads a fine line between Symphonic Metal and Industrial with International flourishes. Closer “Young Prisoners” is slightly more straightforward with biting repeated vocals to start surrounded by synthetic strings and refreshing riffage before bowing out on this latest chapter in the Morlocks already illustrious musical lore.
Amor, Monstra Et Horrore Profundi drops on January 10th through Metropolis Records. You can pre-order your copy now by heading here or to the stream below. For more from Morlocks, follow them across ye olde socials when you click here or here.
