Boston’s Idler Wheel is back with a new single ahead of a new album arriving in late May and if the rest of the rekkid is anything like “Matches” then fans are in for a treat and then some. Actually, we’ve heard said album that “Matches” is the lead single from and we know it is indeed a treat and then some so apologies on the misdirect to create some drama/mystery. Our bad!
But I digress!
Didja dig 2021’s Superflux? Well get ready for the next step in the evolution of Idler Wheel when Run Straight Down arrives on May 27th! To give you a taste, “Matches” is here with almost four minutes of fuzzed out guitars, dreamy vox, and driving, mechanical beats that utterly enthrall. Like a marriage of Bauhaus and Catherine Wheel, bandleader Michael Boylan takes listeners on a hypnotic trip that acts as an extension of Superflux, a nice introduction (Or refresher) of the Idler Wheel sound, and also serves as a glorious new anthem in the IW sonic arsenal.
“Matches” is out now on Candlepin Records and can be yours to stream and/or download when you head here or here. For the latest from Idler Wheel, including info on Run Straight Down, follow the trail of socials and head here, here, or here.
