We know what you’re thinking: Lovina Falls is still doing the rounds on last year’s brilliant debut full-length Calculating the Age of Our Descent and practically just released the very Mistle Thrush leanings of new single “Tragedy” so there’s no way that the purveyors of Boston’s modern Baroque Pop movement could be back with more new music already, right? Right??? Well, we don’t know what to tell you other than here we are with a new post promoting a new song and video clip (Directed and edited by Joan Hathaway) for “Ellery Way” and that we’ve never been happier to be proven wrong than when it comes to unexpected releases from one of Boston’s most fascinating “up and coming” artists fronted by the aforementioned singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Valerie Forgione of Mistle Thrush.
The songs collected within Calculating the Age of Our Descent were a cornucopia of vibrant sonic musings featuring Lovina Falls’ signature Baroque Pop sound at the forefront but then June’s “Tragedy” kinda scaled things back with an almost modern Mistle Thrushing. And now “Ellery Way” is here to completely jumble your cerebral cortex when it comes to figuring out what the “Lovina Falls sound” is all about but trust us when we say it’s the most welcome mind scramble you’ll ever experience!
Like the Joan Hathaway-directed video accompaniment (Which you can view below), “Ellery Way” is akin to floating in water (Think sensory deprivation tank especially) with Forgione’s tantalizing tones sing songing away like lullaby verses before opening up with Todd Demma and Matt Klain’s robust rhythmic section resonating respectively on drums and bass while guitarist Brenden Cobb accentuates the haunting synthetic orchestration that Forgione has conjured here.
“Ellery Way” is out now and can be viewed by clicking on the clip below or downloaded and streamed by heading here! If you like what you see and hear then perhaps you’ll be able to experience it live when Lovina Falls opens for The Chameleons on their anniversary tour of the 1986 album Strange Times which coincidentally hits The Sinclair in Cambridge TONIGHT (August 10th)!
