The final VOWWS single of 2020 is both a blessing and a curse. Or more bittersweet, really, because on the one hand: Yaye! New VOWWS! But on the other, more edge-of-your-seat holding your breath nervousness for that highly anticipated follow-up to Under The World to materialize. Growing up sans internet I’ve learned patience when it comes to waiting for new music from my favorites so I’ll gladly hold out hope on what’s to come as should the rest of VOWWS’ fan base after hearing “Stay Where You Are”.
But I digress.
Equally a mantra and a new anthem for 2020, “Stay Where You Are” delivers VOWWS’ signature blend of “Australian Death Pop” that treads New Wave, Pop, Alternative, and Post-Everything. It’s infectious and driving thanks to Matt Campbell’s hypnotic guitars, Rizz’s lush synthetic atmosphere and an overwhelming sense of wonder and wickedness. Campbell’s familiar baritone adds to the air with Rizz’s back up vocals adding a certain incandescence that is pure VOWWS through and through.
