We keep a running list of records that release throughout a given year that strike some kind of chord with us so that we don’t get overwhelmed when it comes to whittling down faves for our inevitable year-end list. Sometimes, on very rare occasions, we add a band to that list before an album even drops because we have faith in that artist while on other occasions an advance single is so strong that we can’t imagine not loving what’s to come. Boston’s Blood Lightning falls into the latter category as “Blankets” got many a spin over a plethora of different streaming platforms from us and now that we have the rest from the supergroup’s debut in house we don’t feel bad about patting ourselves on the back over that early prediction.

Wait, we get TWO records with Doug Sherman kickin’ ass and takin’ names on the axe in 2023??? It’s true! And speaking of “kickin'”, Boston supergroup Blood Lightning who feature the Gozu guitarist in its’ ranks has been kickin’ around for a bit but this year is going to give us their debut full-length which arrives in October through Ripple Music. So yeah, we may have already declared Cattle Decapitation’s latest to be our most favorite Metal record of the year but when it comes to sheer heaviness, Gozu might take the crown after the nine punishing (And creatively named) tracks they’re about to lay down for y’all throughout latest album Remedy.

If this one doesn’t propel them to the rawk stratosphere then humanity might truly be lost. [Read more…]
Gozu Delivers Rawk Excellence With Revival (Album Review)
When you think “Boston bands”, outfits like Aerosmith, Godsmack (Sorry!), The Cars, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones usually come to mind. Stellar bands in their own right and should make any Masshole proud of the tunes coming out of the state. Me? I’m proudest when I think of bands like Cave In, Converge, and Isis. And even prouder over the past few years with bands like Motherboar, Summoner, Doomriders, and the focus of this column: Gozu. [Read more…]
