It’s been 7 years, people! Seven years since Richard Patrick and company has delivered a whole Filter album. And sure, absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that, but with teases of new Filter dating back to 2020 when “Thoughts And Prayers” and “Murica” were released fans are now chomping at the bit for a new collection of solid Filter tunez. And that’s not to say that Patrick has been slacking in the years since Crazy Eyes dropped in 2016! Oh no! The prolific artist applied his craft to some film scores (Dark Crimes, Last Rampage), reunited with Nine Inch Nails briefly for their Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame shows, did a start/stop with original Filter cohort Brian Liesgang (Some songs from that new collaboration appear here), and recently teamed up with Jim Louvau to form A Place To Kill (With their debut single available now through Golden Robot Records here). But now it’s back to full on Filter mode and we couldn’t be happier because The Algorithm, Filter’s eighth full-length, is like a veritable best of from the Industrial Hard Rawk veterans.

We’re all for new Filter singles ESPECIALLY when they serve as the harbinger of a brand new album which is the case with “Face Down” heralding a long awaited new album (Their first since 2016’s Crazy Eyes) called The Algorithm tentatively scheduled for an August release (Wait, are we going to get a new Filter AND Ministry record in the same month in 2023???) through Golden Robot Records.

On paper, The Banishment is one weird ass concept. Take a legendary guitar god like George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob, etc) and transplant his art into a world inhabited by Ministry and Filter on the regular. That’s right, we’re talking Industrial Metal as the main course of what The Banishment’s serving up to yer earholes. But y’know what? It works. Extremely well.

Here we go again! Part wishful thinking, part playing detective while piecing together social media updates, and part actual facts! We could only be talking about our latest crystal ball viewing as we look to the year 2023 and hope for the best that those “confirmed” releases actually come out and that maybe our thoughts and prayers are answered when it comes to those with less concrete plans as of this posting. Join us, won’t you?

I don’t why I thought it’d be a good idea to do both an end of the year list and preview list reflecting the year they’re happening in….but here we are. Our list of twenty one albums and change has already posted (Which you can read here) so now it’s time to close the book on 2021 and look to the future with 22 albums we think will make this year sound even better than the last…and change.

On the one hand, I typically despise writing about remix records but on the other, I love the Lord Of Lard. That said, I’ve recently come to the realization (Or was it a revelation?) that a remix album done right is akin to a new album unto itself utilizing the ebb and flow a regular record would have in place. As is the case with Drugged, Dangerous, & Damned which takes that embedded Raymond Watts DNA found in all the tracks and tweaks them to somehow dig down deeper in the roots to present listeners with a coherent collection of tracks that’s like classic KMFDM and early Skinny Puppy. In fact, the only flaw found here is the fact that the release should’ve been timed more perfectly to actually coincide with Halloween. We’ll take five days removed, though, and move on.

Holy hell do we have to nip this thing in the bud before we even start! The idea was to have 19 solid releases that are in various states of development to fill out our list of most anticipated for 2019 (Get it? 19 in ’19) but then we kept thinking about ALL THE REST that are due (supposedly) so we had to add a precursor to said list which, well, got kind of insane. So for your reading pleasure is this stream of consciousness thing we concocted before the actual list which follows directly after. We even put artists in bold so you can skip around the wordsplosion that’s about to happen. Thanks in advance for reading! [Read more…]
Filter Expand The Fold On Epic Crazy Eyes (Album Review)
Filter has always been an important band to me. Imagine if you will a world without the interwebs, where you can’t immediately identify a song from a new band you never heard of in a microsecond. [Read more…]

15 for ’15: A Rock And Roll Fables Guide To The Best Releases Of The New Year
In no way in any sort of order, here’s the albums we think you should be looking forward to in 2015:
1. Amen (TBC/TBA)
No clue what the album is called and no clue when it’s coming out but it should be coming at you in 2015. Casey Chaos is back, my friends! Reinvigorated and alive (Didja see Amen’s triumphant set at Knotfest?!?!?!), Chaos rules next year and is joined by former Amen bassist John Fahnestock and some guy named Dave Lombardo playing drums. Make no mistake, this should be one of the heaviest and most prolific metal release of 2015. [Read more…]
