Kill Devil Hill Return Revamped And Revived On Stellar Seas Of Oblivion

It takes a lot for a band to come back and still be just as vital/potent after almost 10 years of recorded dormancy. And it takes a WHOLE lot more when half the foundation of your band splits and you still manage to come back like Kill Devil Hill has with an absolute blockbuster of a record in Seas Of Oblivion.

Kenny Hickey: A Rock And Roll Fables Conversation

“A hope, a prayer, and a plane ticket and a couple of riffs! For fear of letting down my buddy who spent all this money we had to come up with something…”

The “buddy” in question is a former Danzig merch guy and the reason you have a veritable supergroup of Metal/Sludge/Doom talent featuring members of Crowbar, Down, Type O Negative, and Silvertomb according to EYE AM vocalist/guitarist Kenny Hickey recently via phone:

Singles! EYE AM, “Dreams Always Die With The Sun”

26 May 2023 By jesse 2 Comments

The only complaint we have about the debut single from supergroup EYE AM is this: Why did no one in either party think to do this before??? Featuring Type O Negative’s guitarist/vocalist Kenny Hickey and drummer Johnny Kelly with Crowbar’s vocalist/guitarist Kirk Windstein and former Crowbar and Down bassist Todd Strange, EYE AM is ready to set the music world ablaze with their inspired modern Doom that also takes turns visiting a time when the term “Heavy Metal” was on the rise and “Shock Rock” had yet to be defined for a Black Sabbath meets Iron Butterfly meets Alice Cooper hybrid that surprisingly sounds nothing like anything the sum of EYE AM’s parts are known for.

Silvertomb Celebrate All Things Doom, Expand The Type O Negative Legacy On Edge Of Existence

31 October 2019 By jesse Leave a Comment

One of our most anticipated of the year arrived later than expected but is easily worth the wait. From the ashes of Type O Negative and, more accurately, Seventh Void comes the new project from guitarist/vocalist Kenny Hickey alongside frequent partner-in-crime Johnny Kelly on drums who reunite for Silvertomb and this monumental slab of Gothic Doom called Edge Of Existence that is sure to fill the gap left in your black hearts in a world without Peter Steele.

A Subtle Rebuttal: Re-Ordering Type O Negative’s Albums From Awful To Least Worst Of

14 February 2019 By jesse 1 Comment

A few years back, Metal Hammer decided to rank Type O Negative’s discography from worst to first and, as a lifelong tattoo-emblazoned/double digit seeing TON fan, I was slightly put off by the whole thing. That said, and at the urging of bostonregina, I decided to rectify their mistakes and make my own list.

19 for ’19: An Even More Exhaustive Look/Speculation On What Will Float Yer Collective Boats In The Coming Year

26 December 2018 By jesse 1 Comment

Holy hell do we have to nip this thing in the bud before we even start! The idea was to have 19 solid releases that are in various states of development to fill out our list of most anticipated for 2019 (Get it? 19 in ’19) but then we kept thinking about ALL THE REST that are due (supposedly) so we had to add a precursor to said list which, well, got kind of insane. So for your reading pleasure is this stream of consciousness thing we concocted before the actual list which follows directly after. We even put artists in bold so you can skip around the wordsplosion that’s about to happen. Thanks in advance for reading! [Read more…]

Kenny Hickey: A Rock and Roll Fables Conversation

4 October 2018 By jesse 1 Comment

Watching a Silvertomb show, featuring former Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Hickey and drummer Johnny Kelly, is equally a transcendent and cathartic experience. Rounded out by Joseph James on guitar, Aaron Joos on keys, backing vocals, and guitar, and the indomitable Hank Hell and his fierce stage presence on bass, the sound is simply massive. A sum of all its’ parts, Silvertomb is a Doom outfit in the vein of Type O Negative with Kelly’s thunderous drumming alongside Hickey’s signature riffs and uncanny voice. [Read more…]
