There’s a few artists we’ve come across over the years that, when the announcement of new music of any sort arrives, we automatically start a draft or add the album or tune to a usually already in progress year end list because what they’ve created thus far is just that damn good. Lowell’s Tysk Tysk Task is quickly becoming one of those artists for us and following January’s release of “Intolerable”, we were inclined to go that route with new single “Trazodone”. And not to toot our own methods but upon actually hearing the new jam in full, we can’t see any reason why TTT wouldn’t maintain that status from now on.

The fiery enigma that is Lowell’s Tysk Tysk Task is an artist that’s just as compelling now as when we first heard them and even more so when you factor in the visual element surrounding the mystique (Read: Get to a Tysk Tysk Task show!) After a relatively quiet year on the recording front, but definitely not on the live front with multiple appearances during the 2023 Rock & Roll Rumble resurrection among other shows throughout last year, Tysk Tysk Task kicked off 2024 by not only unveiling a brand new song featuring the fresh new TTT lineup band but also with the recent announcement that the band would be taking part in this year’s annual Boston Calling music festival appearing on Day 3 of the stacked lineup which also features Killers, Megan Thee Satllion, Hozier & more over Memorial Day weekend from May 24th through May 26th.

This past year we decided to do things a little differently as we approached our year end round up as we felt that a lot of local talent gets overshadowed when we do our annual year ender so instead of doing just one MASSIVE list to include everything that we thought was rad we divided the list in two so that both National and Local acts got time to bask in the glow of their 2023 achievements. With that over, and working out pretty well, we felt the need to do the same when it came to our new year preview so prepare yourselves for the inevitable informing that’s to come in this New England-based look at some of what you can expect from your local faves.

It’s too early to have a “Song Of The Year”, right? How about “Song Of The Year” contender? Because Lowell’s Tysk Tysk Task just upped the game and their game considerably with what they’re about to drop.

We are lucky enough to live in a town where you can walk outside your door on the daily and practically bump into an artist making killer music. That said, and with a scene so seemingly bursting with talent, it’s sometimes hard to differentiate who you should pay attention to which is where we come in occasionally to act as a guide to help you find who stands out from the rest.

Week 2 of the triumphant return of the Rock And Roll Rumble raged on at the the Middle East Upstairs on Thursday, April 13th for what was a bittersweet event for us having relatively recently reviewed 3 out of the 4 artists vying for a spot in the Semi-Final rounds. It also happened to be one of the loudest of the whole Rumble so far as attendees were greeted once again by our fabulous host, Anngelle Wood of Boston Emissions, to start a raucous night of, ahem, RAWK, and then some!

Can we just plaster this post with the weeping emoji? Or the heartbreaking one? Because who can choose between these artists?? Same goes for each night but this is the first night where 3 out of the 4 entrants have been gushed upon by us fairly recently (That said, is it shitty to link to our own reviews when talking about tonight’s artists because we’ve got some built in posts is all…) so it’s fair to say we’re coming in a little biased as to why this night might be our favorite of all the preliminary rounds. And with that, let’s dissect what’s happening over at Middle East Upstairs on Thursday, April 13th:

We’re biased when it comes to Massachusetts-based artists, okay? And we’ve stated that many, many, many, MANY times in these pages. It helps a lot that our local scene seems to rule on the regular and with that said, we bring you the upcoming full-length from Lowell’s Tysk Tysk Task which not only rules on the regular but delights on the daily! Cheesy statement? No doubt. Totally accurate? Oh, hells yes!

After covering the brilliant “Colors” single by Lowell’s own Tysk Tysk Task, we somehow managed to drop the ball and completely miss the equally brilliant “Rosegold” released in late July (Check it out here)… but we’ll be damned if we miss out again! Well, a little at least seeing as we missed the release of “Ocean Now” by a week or two. Hey, we’re trying!
