Tempers produce the kinds of earworms that you WANT to have stuck in your head for all time. For me, it was “Further” off 2017’s Fundamental Fantasy which initially hooked me and, without trepidation, I continually welcome any and all new music from the New York-based duo bringing us to this point in time and the imminent release of Private Life, their third full-length of dreamy dark Electro.
But I digress!
“Capital Pains” is like John Carpenter meets Ritual Howls then becomes this, dare I day, fun kind of opening anthem before “Leonard Cohen Afterworld” stomps in with somber tones as Jasmine Golestaneh’s airy delivery compounds upon the hypnotic tones being delivered to your earholes.
“Peace Of Mind” is akin to a stream of consciousness with Golestaneh’s dreamy vocals uttered in a smoky baritone and Eddie Cooper’s pulsating beats humming underneath while later, “Daydreams” brings to mind VOWWS with the way Cooper and Golestaneh duet.
“Guidance” is haunting and the kind of excellent Electronica that elevates Tempers above the rest with Golestaneh’s broad vocal passages conjuring Robert Del Naja’s approach to the mic. Then “Push/Pull” comes out of left field and reveals another side of Tempers as this guitar-driven, almost bluesy number, injects a completely different feel into Private Life but keeps the overall aesthetic intact with a soundscape close to something found on the Manhunter soundtrack from the ’80’s.
“More Than You Realized” follows a similar frame of mind, propelled by a droning guitar refrain with the synths sauntering in and building off of one another causing the song to buzz as it throbs. Closing out with “Exit”, which has all the feels of The Terminator theme (Think the synthesizer parts and not that iconic percussive line), Tempers enrapture ears with electronics once more on this instrumental number that further expands their synthetic world.
Private Life invades your life on October 25th through DAIS Records. Pre-orders are live and can be perused and purchased by clicking here or here. For more on Tempers, follow them on their socials by clicking here or here.
