bad//verb Get Especially Rambunctious, A Little Experimental On Violent Year

Cover Design by Liz Walshak

Violent Year, the latest release from bad//verb, just might be our favorite release from the Boston Gen X Cringe trio yet! And here’s why…

With this particular release bad//verb unleash three tracks of nuanced bombastic noise that take the band’s sound in some new directions and, as an aside, kind of kickstarted our yearly draft reminding us of what’s cooking throughout 2026 ahead of the inevitable year-end recap. So there’s that, too.

Anyway! The title track is pure Desert Rawk Doom and more in line with something their peers in Sundrifter might put out over Nirvana with some Fu Manchu-like ways about it even especially with the way that Jon Christopher sings here before a fiery Garage Rawk noise takes over the finale.

“Lost Memory” is a slightly more standard bad//verb fare, embracing the grungier side of Grunge (With Mudhoney coming to mind) as soaring guitar lines from Christopher flutter about and Aarne Victorine and Lex Marburger restlessly rumble underneath with their respective Bass/Drums interplay. Rounding out this trio from the trio is “I Love You” and kind of a nice combination of the previous two tracks with a looser feel that still retains that stunning wall of sound formed by Victorine, Christopher and Marburger.

Violent Year hits Bandcamp today (February 6th, Bandcamp Friday, Find it here or at the stream below) and the rest of your favorite DSP’s on February 9th. 100% of the proceeds from digital sales and 50% from physical merch sales TODAY (2.6.26) will go to the Immigrant Justice Network of MA and you can find out more on what they do by heading here.
