If you dig any kind of iteration of modern Electro or Industrial then I Ya Toyah has something for you! And with upcoming EP (Our review is due soon), I am the Fire, fans get a taste of that broad spectrum over just 5 tracks. It also helps that this particular outing was produced by Stabbing Westward’s own Walter Flakus AND features SW vocalist Christopher Hall on one of the tracks (The just released “Dream Not A Dream” remix). That said, the new release is just the tip of the iceberg on what looks to be a banner year for I Ya Toyah with teases of even more new music coming, some high profile tours already booked (Cold Waves!) and so much more! Recently, we were lucky enough to get the opportunity to chat with I Ya Toyah over email about all the recent buzz, defining the “I Ya Toyah sound”, and what makes a collaboration work among other topics all of which you can read below:

It’s been a banner week and a half or so for us in terms of some of our all time favorites seemingly coming out of the woodwork with unexpected new material. The most surprising of those has to be Boston’s Stompbox who is just about ready to not only re-release their debut Travis for the first time ever digitally (With loads of bonus music) but also drop their first batch of new material since 1994’s Stress. That’s right, kids, 30 years. Being one of our bucket list Boston bands since we never got a chance to see them back in the day (We’ve since ticked that, ahem, box when they played the Boston Rocks For Julie Duffy shows in 2021), we jumped on the chance to review the new EP called Final Summer a little early and thanks to drummer Zeph Courtney that became a reality (You can read what we thought of that here). While we had Courtney on the line we thought it’d be silly not to catch up on all things Stompbox and, luckily for us and you, he obliged:

It’s no secret that we’ve dug the hell out of what’s come from Wyn & The White Light thus far so it’s probably not a surprise that debut album Luck was pretty high up on our most anticipated list already. Well, it’s almost here for the rest of y’all but we’ve already heard it, reviewed it, and shared what we thought in a recent post that you can read here. To coincide with the release we were, ahem, lucky enough to have the opportunity to chat with the “Wyn” part of Wyn & The White light with Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Wyn Doran agreeing to open up more on the genesis of the band that also features Heidi Tierney on drums and Lucia Jean on bass, sharing some very personal experiences in song, bucket list places and venues to play, and so much more which you can discover when you keep reading:

We can’t really say enough about the mesmerizing sounds that The Shallows conjure throughout their debut record Wave State. On both a local and national level, The Shallows create music that’s tantamount to a certain era but still stands out as timeless. And on an album of highlights, the debut track from that lush collection of ethereal aural journeys, “Channels”, remains a stand out.

Remember when it was okay to smile…or when something just made you feel really happy? Music does that for me constantly even through all of the current lunacy in the world and it’s artists like Carissa Johnson who keep giving me reasons to turn that perennial frown upside down.
