We’re doing it because we are HYPED that the Rock And Roll Rumble is finally back. We’re also hyped that more than a handful of artists that are part of this year’s class have graced our pages in some way, shape, or form! Regardless of the reasons: HYPED! Boston Emissions’ own Anngelle Wood has once again masterfully curated a class of 24 talented artists from the Bay State and surrounding areas who will face off 4 at a time across 6 nights at the Middle East Upstairs beginning on April 6th before moving next door to Sonia for 2 Semi-Final rounds and eventually culminating there on May 6th where a final 3 will duke it out sonically to determine the 2023 champ. Whoo! Are you HYPED???

I could either completely exhaust myself and do four separate reviews of the albums that represent 2019’s Day Of Doom live showcase at Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus Bar heading towards the end of releases in 2020 when most are shifting their focus to year end lists and preview pieces…or just do one MASSIVE review of all the releases. Take a guess where we’re going with this one, won’t you?

Let it be known, as a regular concertgoer I am not a fan of livestreamed events. I’ve been supporting and promoting my favorites throughout the pandemic by purchasing what I can in merch and vinyl (And the odd one off CD here and there) but there’s just something about sitting in front of my five-year old laptop and staring at a screen of a band I love a million miles away performing their hearts out to a ghost audience that doesn’t do it for me after trying with Clutch, a band I’ve seen a ridiculous amount of times, earlier in the year.

“Love” and “Family” were two words that were thrown around a lot during Cold’s set and it was a great sense of love and family that was felt by the packed house Friday night at the Stafford Palace Theater in Connecticut when the quintet made a triumphant return to the stage on the second night of their current “Broken Human” tour.

My first exposure to industrial metallers Fear Factory was back in college and the Mortal Kombat soundtrack which featured “Zero Signal” off a little album called Demanufacture. Something about the synths and the syncopated guitar and drum attacks paired with vocalist Burton C. Bell’s growl to a croon approach immediately stood out to me. And as a fan of bands like Ministry and NIN already, this took me to a new level. [Read more…]

American Head Charge Returns To Worcester, Previews Songs From Tango Umbrella
American Head Charge in 2015 have nothing left to prove to you because they’ve already endured. Endured label woes, a slew of line-up changes, drug problems, death, and eventually their dissolution in 2009. But they quietly returned in 2011, self-released the Shoot EP in 2013, and recently announced their signing with Napalm Records for the release of their upcoming fourth album. They’re currently in the middle of a North American tour supporting Combichrist, Filter, and label mates Coal Chamber which is how we had a chance to see them live when the tour rolled through Worcester, MA over the weekend. If the video/song below for “My House” doesn’t immediately hook you then the full-length from Lowell, MA’s PVRIS definitely will. Released last year through Rise Records, White Noise is a glorious amalgamation of The Birthday Massacre’s female-driven synthetic rock along with some good old ’80’s style Pop in the Hall & Oates/Tears For Fears vein.
