The Boston supergroup you didn’t know you needed in your life is back with another collection of four tracks that came here to chew bubble gum and kick some ass. But guess what? They’re all out of bubblegum! And just like their debut, the songs featured within are a broad range of styles representing the similarly broad range of musicians involved who, collectively, have brought fans some of Boston’s best Sludge Metal (Motherboar), best Alternative (Mellow Bravo, Bird Language), and best Party Rawk (Party Bois).
Somehow managing to perfectly capture the aesthetic of a bunch of different bands of the mid-’90’s to early ’00’s (Catherine Wheel and Handsome come to mind as do Stompbox and C60 if you’re more locally inclined), “Politics on the Internet” is a fiery anthem that blasts out the gate like a cannon as vocalist Keith Pierce barks like a madman with Benny Grotto’s drums, Andrew Doherty’s guitars, and Johnny Northrup’s bass forming an impenetrable wall of riotous rabble rousin’ noise!
As we said in our recent review, “Paying Attention” very well could be the definitive Real Beaut song collecting all of what makes this collection of musicians great with a solid three minutes of 90’s-style Hard Rawk melding with ’80’s-like Arena Rawk (Doherty’s chunky riffage and soloing has some Van Halen flair for sure). “Profane And Pedigree” adds another layer to the Real Beaut sound taking a downtrodden trip on this murky jam with Northrup and Doherty both laying into the low end and subdued sonics with Pierce providing a profound vocal experience throughout while “Islands” is even further from what started, ending this new release like a furious Emo or Indie Rawk banger of yesteryear with Grotto’s galloping drumming and Pierce’s smooth swoon serenading those awaiting earholes.
Politics is out on April 4th!
