RNRF X Rock & Roll Rumble 2024: Week 1, Night 3

Moving right along aaaaaand we’ve made it to the end of Week 1 and the competition is already FIERCE! On this particular night we’ve got veterans of the Boston Music Scene battling against relative noobs (Read: novices) that still sound like they’re 4 albums deep only a few years into a burgeoning career. And with that said, we present the 4 bands representing Night 3 of the 2024 Rock & Roll Rumble:

Condition Baker (9PM): According to ye olde Bandcamp bio, Condition Baker is a “4 Piece Punk band from Holbrook, MA. Influenced by “Dookie Era” Green Day, Jawbreaker, Descendents, and many other punk and grunge bands.” And honestly, we totally get that. Especially after listening through tracks like the anthemic “How It Goes”, the introspective solemness of “Esmeralda” or sophomore LP Long Way Home. Get an advance preview of what’s in store by clicking here.

Other Brother Darryl (945PM): The first band on here (So far!) that’s been one of those “In our Inbox but have yet to formulate a full review…” kinds of outfits. And that’s not for lack of trying on our end just that Father Time and us don’t always get along. Anyway! What Other Brother Darryl brings to the Rumble is some earnest down home countrified light Rawk that’s easily sure to stand out amongst all the comparatively LOUDer outfits surrounding the self-proclaimed Alt-Country outfit. Catch up and prepare now by heading here.

Wire Lines (1030PM): Bandcamp bios are the best and worst things for a band sometimes (And always great for us, for the record). Best because it’s kind of that “choose your own destiny” mentality but also bad because that freedom to profess what it is you’re all about might be overwhelming to newcomers. While we won’t copy pasta what New Bedford’s Wire Lines has up we will say that it definitely fits in the first half of that equation and we’d go so far as to add that at times they’re like Elvis Costello fronting later Husker Du. Feel free to interpret for yourself when you head here.

Lovina Falls (1115PM): Can we declare a Rumble performance as “Highly anticipated” or is that akin to being biased? Regardless, the new project from Mistle Thrush’s Val Forgione is already living up to the hype and with not too many a live performance under their belt since their inception we think it’s safe to say that, while shrouded in mystique, Lovina Falls headlining any night of the Rumble is one that’s going to have a very bright light shone upon it. Luckily they back up the hype coming off an absolute killer debut in Calculating the Angle of Our Descent that’s a macabre baroque cabaret that dmenads to be heard. Which you can when you head here.

And that concludes our preview of Night 3 of the 2024 edition of the Rock & Roll Rumble which takes place at Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge on Saturday, April 6th. Doors open at 8PM with a 9PM start time planned. Ticket links for all shows are located here with “Full Boat” passes for the whole shebang available here.
