We started this review in the wee hours after the clock struck midnight here on the East Coast on the evening of February 12th into the 13th, were reminded that ACTORS had a brand new song out, then proceeded to start this piece on “CTRL” by pleading to whatever higher power would listen that this new banger from the Canadian Electro outfit be the precursor to the band’s long awaited 3rd LP. Then the sun rose and information came to light that ACTORS’ highly anticipated 3rd LP, titled Our Love Will Last Forever, was indeed on the way and that new single “CTRL” was the first taste. And all was right in the world… of music, at least.
Anyway! “CTRL” is here and it is divine. For us, the willy nilly’s we got when first hearing “L’appel Du Vide” from debut It Will Come To You were ever present here with a more futuristic outlook and an even bolder sound. Shannon Hemmet’s keys are all encompassing honing in on an ’80’s synth-laden TV theme vibe (Street Hawk meets V: The Mini-Series) that’s hypnotic as Jason Corbett on vocals and guitar holds court over the glistening, almost ethereal presence of the new ACTORS track. Adding to the absolutely electric Electro essence is Adam Fink and Kendall Wooding whose respective drum/bass combination heighten the song with a propulsive playfulness.
“CTRL” is out now through Artoffact Records and you can find your own copy by heading here or to the link below.
