Singles! Arrows Of Athena, “Reckless Heart”

Design Credit: Jac-Lyn Gibson

There are some tracks you hear and for some reason or another they instantly hit. It’s the timbre of the singer’s wail sometimes or maybe the guitar tones or just an overall vibe. In the case of “Reckless Heart” from Arrows Of Athena it’s all of that and everything else under the sun that we couldn’t think to say. And if new single “Reckless Heart” is just a smidge of what Arrows Of Athena has up its’ collective sleeves then full-length The Ghost Archives has a LOT to live up to when it arrives later this month.

Anyway! “Reckless Heart” is a moving guitar-driven opus but also a songwriter’s delight featuring the talents of Jac-Lyn Gibson on vocals and Scott Lerner handling guitar, bass, synths, and drum programming. Kind of this neat mix of both Elastica’s grounded grinding Pop and Republica’s bombastic Electro flair, “Reckless Heart” is definitively a modern ditty but easily treads timeless trails with the way the song unfolds with Gibson’s soulful croon and Lerner’s multi-instrumental prowess easily setting Arrows Of Athena apart from comparisons (Beyond what we just typed, that is). Pulling no punches on this introductory track, listeners then get a “Leave ’em wanting more moment” already with Gibson uttering “Why so tense, baby? Have a glass of wine!” and then the song just ends for a move that’s both gutsy AND glorious.

“Reckless Heart” arrives on April 5th followed by debut full-length The Ghost Archives on April 26th through Belhaven Records.
