By the time second single “Reclaim” landed in our inbox we were 99.9% sure that whatever came next from Portland, Oregon’s Ceremony Shadows was similarly destined for greatness/great things. Now, having heard both the upcoming new single “Prey” AND debut full-length Ascension (Due in March), we can confidently proclaim that that assessment of the music CS conjures to be 100% accurate.
Regarding “Prey”? Well, it might be their best release so far. Or is the best yet to come when Ascension arrives? Or is all of it “the best” when it comes to talking about Ceremony Shadows? The only way to know for sure is to tune in with each offering before the whole collection eventually arrives.
What we will say about “Prey”, however, is that the way Timo manipulates sounds and builds an aura before any kind of vocal is even uttered is pure masterclass. Speaking of vocals and a mastery of one’s instrument, both Jakub and Anastasia are masters of their respective domain bringing a sultry bite to each note uttered. Add in guitar textures by Dr. Lena Böhme to the already intrinsic inimitable sonic palette being painted upon by Ceremony Shadows’ core trio and it’s hard to deny that yeah, this might be their best single yet.
“Prey” drops on February 17th ahead of the debut of Ascension on March 20th. For “Prey”, head here, and for all else Ceremony Shadows-related you can check out the socials by clicking here, here, or here.
