Immediate and urgent to start, “Saving Chelsea” from Boston’s Charming Arson is that most wonderful anthem that plays during the hippest Indie throwback coming-of-age dramedy ode to the ’80’s or ’90’s yet to be made. Get all that? You will.
Born of the pandemic era and featuring former members of Zoot, Charming Arson brings some fun energy to their brand of Alt-Indie noise that’s reminiscent of the bravado brought by some of the biggest songs from, ahem, Big Country and Slade with leanings toward transitionary U2 as they began to shed their early sound in favor of more stadium-style stuff (Think “Where The Streets have No Name” especially with lead guitarist Stefano Bellezza’s style of playing throughout).
All of that above conjecture fits nicely into “Saving Chelsea” which also sports big, harmonious choruses from vocalist/guitarist David Cameron with stunning stick work from Dave Gould who straddles the line between timekeeper and peacekeeper as the song heads to a feverish finale while the bass from Aaron Clark hums steadily like a heartbeat.
“Saving Chelsea” drops on May 10th. You can pre-save/pre-order yours now by heading here. For more from Charming Arson, including info on their show at The Jungle in Somerville on May 11th, follow the trail of socials by clicking here, or here.
