Singles! Constellation Myths, “Spare Room”

Single and album artwork by Dan McCarthy. Design and layout by Molly Seamans.

There’s a range of hashtags at the bottom of the promo stream representing “Spare Room”, the first single off of Constellation Myths’ upcoming new LP, that oddly are all correct. And also not. There’s “Indie” and “Post Rock” but also “Americana” and “Alt Country”. What stuck out to us was the “Ambient Country” and “Cosmic Country” pings because one listen through “Spare Room” and there’ll be no doubt that the song is definitely out of this world.

As is the album it’s apart of (Called The Cost of Living and arriving on July 16th but we’ll get more into that at a later date). “Spare Room” as a starting point has an ethereal Alternative aura to it with roots in Americana and Folk for sure but also sporting an Indie aesthetic and a polished Pop sheen hovering over all. Vocalist Molly Seamans’ angelic voice tells stories with an air of all your favorite Trip-Hop sirens and Folk heroes (Think Tracy Thorn/Elizabeth Fraser meets Patti Smith) at times as the tender plucking/picking across Josh Goldman’s guitar and banjo bring both heft and heart. Andy Arch’s bass stylings are almost hypnotic with the way they’re woven into the sonic tapestry while Justin Kehoe keeps the pace with a tempered tapping of the sticks and also adds a dense atmosphere on keys.

“Spare Room” drops on May 14th with full-length The Cost of Living arriving on July 16th.
