Singles! Flickerstick, “Your Heart is a Fortress”

We’re going to just stop declaring publicly what our 2025 “Album of the Year” is because every time we think we have it figured out something new and unexpected comes along. For those keeping score, so far it’s been Pixel Grip to Greet Death to Crippling Alcoholism (With a hearty helping of Friendship Commanders and Pelican in here) and now the upcoming new full-length from Flickerstick. WHICH WE HAVEN’T EVEN HEARD YET. But we have high hopes following the just launched lead track, “Your Heart Is A Fortress”.

Despite being back since around 2022 (With an EP and single release since), the former VH1 Bands on the Run outfit’s “Your Heart Is A Fortress” really sounds like a proper “comeback” song offering up a seamless transition from the untouched independent copies of the iconic Welcoming Home The Astronauts released almost 25 years ago now. And yes, we know, other albums have come since then (Tarantula is still such a gem!) but if you listen through the new single, sonically, it’s way more in line with that seminal collection of songs.

Vocalist Brandin Lea sounds as grand as ever laying these broad emotive strokes over the musical canvas brought to colorful life by Rex James Ewing and Beau Wagener’s screaming guitars, Fatima Thomas’ buoyant bass lines and Todd Harwell’s directed drumming.

“Your Heart Is a Fortress” is out now and can be heard via all your most favorite DSP’s which you can check out here. For more from Flickerstick, including the latest on their upcoming new full-length called SUPERLUMINAL and subsequent release show on November 29th at Granada Theater in Dallas with Rose Garden Funeral Party (Direct ticket link for that here), follow the band across their socials by clicking here or here.
