Not to sound like a broken record, but each new sonic story from Happy Little Clouds impresses us more and more. Vocalist/guitarist Jac Mestel’s words and riffs get more enthralling with every new release, drummer Jess Townsend’s drumming gets more intimate and intricate, and Derek Bergstrom’s bass work becomes more integral and interwoven. Together, as Happy Little Clouds, the trio display a musical rapport that’s undeniable and is very apparent on their latest, “Clear & Present Danger”.
It’s a little Reggae and a little Rawk in the way that The Police managed so well back in the day but also uniquely Happy Little Clouds in their own Grit-Pop/Neo-Grunge style. Mestel is becoming the voice of the voiceless in these tumultuous times especially on “Clear & Present Danger” with powerful lyrics at the center of this whirlwind of converging sounds before the pre-chorus lines it all up for a killer showdown in the vibrant chorus.
