Singles! Mission To Sleep, “Designer Graves”

We feel a little guilty typing up this piece on Mission To Sleep’s new single “Designer Graves” having heard the record it’s slated to be apart of in full already. Okay, maybe not guilty but more very well-informed as to what’s on the horizon and as they say “The future looks bright…” especially when discussing anything to do with MTS’s upcoming album!

But as of today we’re just beginning this journey and starting off with “Designer Graves” which is exactly the kind of blueprint we’ve talked about previously regarding setting up what’s to come. As an opening single it’s fierce, solid and what an artist needs that entry song to be but as an early representative of the new record it’s just everything. Period. We’ve talked before on other artists and sonic evolutions but if you were to take Mission To Sleep’s last release (2023’s White Death) and compared it today it’d be like trying to rationalize OG The Fast and the Furious and Fast X existing in the same reality (We know they are). And that’s not to say that the Boston quintet is bigger than ever or that John Cena and Jason Momoa have joined the fam… well, actually, that is kind of what we’re saying because “Designer Graves” has all the makings of a massive game changer. Sans the Momoa and Cena contributions.

We’d mentioned Hum, Far, and Deftones regarding previous Mission To Sleep outings but with “Designer Graves” the band is standing tall alongside peers like Junius and SOM (Especially apparent when you hear the new record). Jeff Kuznezov and Chris Le’s guitars make a grand wall of sound interspersed with these gnarly squeals while drummer Jon DeSousa puts forth the most solidly contained brutality with Justin Viveiros backing that all up with the most vibrant bass rumbling. Topping that all off is Rob Wu on vocals who is a revelation and an absolutely commanding presence whether it’s on the lush verses or during the layered larger than life choruses.

“Designer Graves” is out now through Mind Over Matter Records and you can hear it for yourself through all of your most favorite DSP’s conveniently collected here.
