The pairing of vocalist extraordinaire Tairrie B and multi-instrumentalist Mick Murphy has been on a legendary run lately. Returning following some time away from the grind in 2020 with the SWTEVL project which culminated in a slew of singles and a massive full-length in late 2023, the Murphy’s are taking it back to the beginning with the resurrection MY RUIN. That said, we have a lot in the pipeline focusing on MY RUIN and with good reason as records of a revolutionary nature should always be celebrated and showcased because we still live in a free society… Right?!?!?
The measure of a truly great record in our humble opinion is twofold: First, you HAVE to start off with a KILLER track. Maybe the lead single but definitely something guaranteed to reel all the listeners, new and old, in. Talking MY RUIN now, you get “Compromised” from the upcoming full-length (More on that later) which was released… make that unleashed in October. However, the real key to a memorable musical experience is in that second track. It doesn’t necessarily have to be another single but it absolutely needs to kick some serious ass and be the kind of song that might even overshadow the opener especially in terms of all around badassery. For the reinvigorated MY RUIN, that second track comes in the form of second single “The Audacity” which checks all our perfect album blueprint boxes.
Brutally heavy and brutally honest like everything Ms. B attaches her name to, “The Audacity” treads a fine line between Heavy Metal Hip-Hop, Doom, and Spoken Word Poetry and manages to master all those genres yet not be bound by the confines of any. The track has huge riffs and huge spirit and we think that if you somehow missed lead single/opening track “Compromised” (You can check out the video for that one here) then “The Audacity” is a pretty nice gateway into the world of Declaration Of Resistance and MY RUIN 2.0.
