Singles! Real Beaut, “Paying Attention”

Cover Art by Jason Zucco, Layout by Kieth Pierce

If there was a single song of Real Beaut’s that you could call a proper “primer” to not only catch up music lovers on what’s come before but also one that previews what’s next then we think it’d most likely be “Paying Attention”. Yeah, that’s our final answer. Because pinning a lone ditty to represent a quartet whose members have had a hand in shaping music from Motherboar, Mellow Bravo, Party Bois, and Bird Language to name a few is no easy task. So again, we’ll stick with “Paying Attention”.

Encapsulating a little of everything off their debut EP (Which you can read about here) while giving hints of the branches grown on the upcoming Politics EP, “Paying Attention” is an iridescent ’90’s jam that’s Bob Mould by way of Sugar with a vocalist in Keith Pierce who’s on another level and a mix of Catherine Wheel’s Rob Dickinson and Compulsion’s Josephmary (Haven’t heard of that Irish Punk outfit? Check out our fave from them here) with his delivery here. Illuminating the rest of this Real Beaut soundtrack that features break out handclap moments and a proper sing-a-long chorus is Andrew Doherty switching between sneak attack shred moments and some seriously sick soloing toward song’s end backed up by the rhythm section’s Johnny Northrup with the bold bass bounce and Benny Grotto bringin’ the robust rumbles from behind the kit.

“Paying Attention” is out now off the EP Politics which arrives on April 4th. You can head here or to the stream below for the newest track and then make sure to head here or here to stay up-to-date on all the rest of the Real Beaut coming’s and going’s including upcoming shows like the one at Middle East Upstairs the day after the release of Politics (April 5th!) with American Ethos, Dwelley, and Bad At Drawing which you can go ahead and reserve a ticket to when you head here.
