Singles! Ruby Grove, “Ocean Sun”

Ripple Effect EP artwork by Allison Tanenhaus.

The roll out towards the first proper collection of songs from Ruby Grove has been long but satisfying beginning with “Maybe It’s Time” in 2023, continuing with last year’s “Crystal Land”, and concluding with “Ocean Sun” ahead of the release of Ripple Effect on May 30th.

That said, If “Ocean Sun” is your first exposure to Ruby Grove then you’re in for a treat! The lead track off Ruby Grove’s upcoming debut EP is multi-faceted as it acts as both the best lead single AND lead track off the new release somehow managing to capture the magic of each previously released Ruby Grove track into one concise four minute and change aural anthem. Melissa Nilles once again brings it on the mic and the keys, delivering a refined vocal performance that’s delicate and delightful and filled with so much Soul as the keys sparkle to create an aura similar to the one that permeated “Crystal Land”. Speaking of Soul, the rhythm section of Cedric Lamour (Bass) and Sage Gibbons (Drums) accent that feel through their playing which is big on the grooves found on “Maybe It’s Time” with guitarist Sergio Romero’s Blues-soaked lines weaving in and out leading toward a great breakdown further in that one can almost immediately tell will be a fantastic crowd participation moment.

“Ocean Sun” arrives on May 15th before Ripple Effect reaches land on May 30th. For all things “Ocean Sun”, head here and then continue on here or here for more from Ruby Grove including the latest on their new EP as well as where you can catch those songs performed live on stage (Like the special release show in Somerville on the 15th with The Velvet Dirtmunchers)!
