Starting some belated Sacred Skin coverage by covering the video for the lead single of their latest record which came out about 8 months ago now rather than just focusing on the full album which dropped about 6 months back because why not? And yes, we still have plans to review the record itself (Born In Fire, which is BRILLIANT!!!!) But for now: “Waiting”!
Personally, we miss the early daze of videos where you watched one and thought “Dang! How cool would it be to hang around with that band???” Apparently Sacred Skin did, too? Or maybe they’re just inherently cool? Anyway! If, like us, this was your first foray into Sacred Skin then welcome to the party! A modern synthetic Post-New Wave sound and a visual aesthetic that screams of California in the ’80’s, Sacred Skin seem to have a time-displaced aura about them and we’re definitely here for that!
The single in question is all described above and then some with Brian DaMert’s voice acting as a guide to navigate a Los Angeles nighttime excursion amidst a lush synthetic groove caked on while working in conjunction with Brian Tarney.
Visually, the “Waiting” accompaniment is a Los Angeles-soaked nighttime fever dream with actress Jenna Haze appearing as some sort of ethereal spectral presence (Haze also pops up in SS’s “Call It Off” video clip) alongside live show mainstays Vanessa Rae Robinson and Delano Duran as the group run amok after hours and give nods to The Lost Boys with an especially saucy outdoor bacchanalia scene sans the Joel Schumacher-directed bloodshed/body count.
“Waiting” is out now and you can check out the video when you head below or head here for the single itself. For more from Sacred Skin, follow the trail of socials across the information superhighway by clicking here or here.
