We really don’t want to sound like a broken record here but it’s true: Sunday Junkie is indeed getting better and better with each release. Or maybe they’ve always been the best and this is all just a ruse as they strategically put out new songs that they’ve already ranked in terms of greatness and are leaving breadcrumbs for us listeners to fall deeper under the Sunday Junkie spell!
That’s a possibility, right????
Anyway! We are gonna go ahead and declare “Sister” their best yet… until Sunday Junkie’s next comes along, that is. Anchored by a hypnotic guitar refrain and an instantly memorable melody which itself is buoyed by the rhythm section, “Sister” touches on toxic relationships in the places that might be the hardest to walk away from (Read: within yer own family). Tom Martin’s multi-instrumentalist tendencies are on full display here navigating those guitar and bass lines while vocally, Martin is just *chef’s kiss* especially during that final run and those last wavering lyrics. Then there’s Shawn Pelkey whose staccato stick work and percussive prowess is beyond reproach on “Sister” delivering an iconic performance that elevates and illuminates this already formidable musical partnership with Martin.
“Sister” drops on March 7th and you can do all that pre-savin’ stuff right now when you head here. For more from Sunday Junkie, including all the latest on upcoming shows and potential more new music in the pipeline, follow the trail of socials by clicking here, here, or here.
