According to the press release for the new single from Somerville’s Tequila Sirens off upcoming full-length Impostors (Due in June), “‘Orcas’ explores deeply personal themes of disillusionment and the desire to disengage from a world that feels increasingly chaotic”, and we feel it’s got the sounds to match in this tune that’d fit nicely in a Wes Anderson or Jim Jarmusch film with vocals from Shaun Curran that combine Leonard Cohen storytelling with Girls Against Boys’ Scott McCloud-style hushed intenseness.
If that didn’t intrigue you at all then how about a dive into the juxtaposition of the instrumental side of things with Curran’s keys creating a soundscape that’s somewhere between ’50’s/’60’s early Psychedelia and Beach Rawk with Dwight Hutchenson chiming in with the licks on guitar to accent the mood. Adding to the layers waiting to be peeled back upon multiple listens to “Orcas” is Whit Love and Matt Masuzzo on bass and drums respectively in absolute sync and sounding like a preset beat off an old school organ.
“Orcas” is out now and you can find your copy as well as the accompanying video by clicking here. Tequila Sirens will be celebrating the new single/video on May 13th (Tonight!) with Obliterati at O’Brien’s for the Cameron Keiber Nurser release show (All the deets on that here) followed by Keiber returning the favor as support along with Hidden Fountain at the record release show for Impostors on June 6th at The Lily Pad and then Medford Porch Fest on June 7th with Hot Franks and Sinnet. To keep up-to-date on all of that and more, head to the Tequila Sirens socials here and here.
