You know what? We’ve resigned ourselves to the sad fact that there will NEVER be a band quite like Motherboar and a concept record as grand as The Beast Becomes The Servant (Please listen repeatedly and loudly here) but damn if Virginia’s Üga Büga doesn’t come reaaalllly close at times. And as the band goes even deeper into the concepts started on 2024’s Year Of The Hog with this year’s upcoming Valley Of The Wolf record (Due on June 5th), we’re getting even closer!
But make no mistake, Üga Büga is their own thang and we love them for that regardless of our obscure comparisons! Especially since they continue to compel with not only that aforementioned album but with lead single “Motorhog” which immediately sets a tone. That tone? Down ‘n dirty Sludge Rawk!
From the instant Jimmy Czywczynski’s sticks hit those drums it’s game on! Then there’s Calloway Jones’ super shredding and voice that sounds effortless as it switches between a croon to a crushing scream while Niko Cvetanovich’s bass matches the pace and brings a gnarly low end that manages to continually keep up with Czywczynski’s determined drumming. As an intro to Üga Büga, “Motorhog” is beyond incredible but as the lead in to the next chapter in the Üga Büga story this new song is beyond reproach.
“Motorhog” is out now through Third House Communications & US/THEM Group and you can find your copy by heading here or to the stream below.
