First! Viruette get props without even hearing a note of new single “PUNKTURED” as we’d been looking for an excuse to talk up Layzi since appearing at this year’s Boston Calling and this collab was the perfect opportunity! Second! Viruette get ALL the props for continually creating in the way that they do and producing music such as “PUNKTURED” in the first place.
So yeah, “PUNKTURED” is the name and Lily Allen teaming up with Blur who’ve decided they wanna sound more like Arctic Monkeys circa AM is the game. It makes sense once you listen, trust us! If the terms “Aura” or “Swag” had a soundtrack then we could easily see Viruette being the composers behind it but paired with Layzi?!?! What’s better than “Aura”? Is “gas” still a thing? “Fire”? Whatever the case, Viruette and Layzi effortlessly exude it on a track and accompanying video (Debonairly directed by Jimmy Del Ponte) that’s way beyond cool.
Viruette’s penchant for crafting catchy modern BritPop moments straight outta Boston is supremely strengthened when paired with the Bay State’s resident queen of “lo-fi indie bedroom pop for “PUNKTURED” which leapfrogs off both the respective recent releases of “DEADTOOTH” and “adeline/everything i have” for the most satisfying follow-up’s from both artists. Harry Bee’s mix of falsetto and straight forward vox mesh nicely with the dreamy delivery out of Layzi, especially during the offbeat outro, while Dan Wrona’s guitar, Andrew Ring’s drumming, and George Heffernan’s bass close ranks and concoct a memorable musical map for listeners to follow along to.
Both the video and single for “PUNKTURED” are out now! You can stream the song here and check out the visuals in the YouTube clip below! For more from Viruette, head here or here! And for Layzi, you can do a similar thang by heading here for all the socials, DSP links, upcoming tour dates and more!
