Spooky SZN Sounds: Phantom Ocean, “Carfax Abbey”

What better way to start off our favorite season of the year (And christen a new seasonal column to boot!) than with one of the coolest local outfits debuting a new song about vampires… or at least vampire-related! Still! Horror stuff! From Phantom Ocean!

In their ongoing quest to channel, and we quote, their “love affair with music, a mix of horror, rock and roll, and the troubles of living with the neighbors from Hell (or Transylvania)”, Salem’s Phantom Ocean has returned (Across the oceans of time??) for a terrible tale taking its’ name from the badass London locale owned by none other than Vlad the Vampyr (Or “Impaler” to be accurate but “Vampyr” looks and sounds cooler).

The song in question is just as Victorian and Gothic with a Punk Rawk twist that only Phantom Ocean could pull off beginning with a wall of fuzz courtesy of Drew Smith that’s akin to the opening drive of “I Wana Be Your Dog” but faster. Add Sarah Moughan-Smith’s slick sticks on a steady stomp with Drew accenting with some twang on the frets along with those vampiric-themed verses and it’s a veritable Horror Hoedown that’s perfect for the upcoming Spooky SZN (Or any season, really)!

“Carfax Abbey” arrives on October 1st through all of your most favorite DSP’s which you can conveniently find all collected right here.
