TiCKLES Master An Odd Amalgamation Of Noise That Works Really, REALLY Well Across Sugar & Plastic Plates

The intense spoken word-esque delivery that IDLES and TV Priest both have mastered alongside their combined penchant for quirkiness with the fierceness of Ohms once they ramp up, TiCKLES is an odd amalgamation of noise for sure but one that works incredibly well as we’re sure you’ll attest to once you hear the sounds birthed from the Nantes, France quartet across Sugar & Plastic Plates.

“I Am Not The Body” is a wild start to the record that’d serve as a nice slow burn if it wasn’t also so gotDamn anxious with Lucas Bonfils’ deliberate vocal drone growing more and more rambunctious as the ancillary actions of guitarist Théo Brachet, drummer Anton Brachet and bassist Lucas Fleuranc accent the fervor. “Safest Car” is centered on a robust rhythmic repartee between Fleuranc and Brachet as Théo’s guitars squeal and scream alongside Bonfils’ own howls while “Daughters Around” takes a turn with another low end-centered beginning before a massive wall of sound swells, sways and eventually explodes in the most glorious of ways.

“Love Cells” keeps the ball rolling and is just an exquisite listening experience that’s dense and deliberate with a juicy chorus at its’ center followed by the galloping “Cheeks” that’s broken up by these super melodic verses in between some gigantic towers of noise. “Haunted” is one of those tracks that sounds in danger of falling off the tracks at any moment with the quick paced intricacies its’ built off of before “Norah” ever so slightly rights the ship again for a moment at least until an the combined might of an interwoven bass, guitar and drums fiery fiasco enters the chat.

“One Foot Chair” is some magical melodic mayhem that highlights TiCKLES’ take on calculated cacophony with “Drawings” bringing about a glorious conclusion to this debut LP on a driving number that’s pretty, Post-Punk and a perfect way to absolutely crush the landing.
