A crushing, cathartic slab of harmonious/melodious Rawk made up of four anthems in the, ahem, making are what it’s all about when talking up the newest self-titled EP from supergroup Violets. Comprised of members of The Methadones, Blood People and Naked Raygun, Violets is in position to pounce from just the strength of the four tracks within.
“The Tower” is gargantuan-sounding barrage on the senses before settling slightly and if the wall of guitar noise, slamming stick hits, and rotund bass lines don’t do it for you then we’re pretty sure that Aly Jados’ voice will compel you to stick around. And if that doesn’t do the trick then you might be reading the wrong blog… and listening to the wrong music.
Sure, “The Tower” was pretty freaking epic but you want the people to stick around, right? Well, “Devotion” is just the song to really, ahem, reel the masses in (We swear we’ll stop with the shitty wordplay) on this timeless driven ditty which is just Post-Rawk excellence showing off Fritz Doreza and Michael Soucy’s respective bass/drum pairing pushing the song along as Jados’ gnarly wails highlight the anthemic chorus.
“Staring At The Ceiling” is a little more Pop Rawk-oriented with jangly guitar lines sporadically popping up to accent the main melodies brought on by Simon Lamb, Bill Stephens, and Jados while “Eras” has to be one of the most badass Rawk songs of the year with Jados’ voice perfectly adapting to the Middle Eastern-tinged melodies present on this fierce finale moment.
