We remember it like it was yesterday. March of 1994. It was a glorious month for what would become some of the most groundbreaking (Pantera’s Far Beyond Driven, NIN’s The Downward Spiral) or talked about/divisive (Motley Crue’s lone Vince Neil-less/John Corabi-fronted self-titled outing) records of all time. We were there for each new release Tuesday (Back in our day records were released on Tuesdays) and, teetering on that pinnacle Grunge before the wheels would soon come off, were especially excited for Soundgarden’s follow up to Badmotorfinger, Superunknown. Like its’ predecessor, Superunknown is pretty much a banger yielding two of Soundgarden’s biggest songs to date and now Magnetic Eye Records is celebrating the album with this newest entry into their Redux series!

Diving into the latest from Chicago’s High Priest gives us similar feels when listening through recent albums from REZN and Sergeant Thunderhoof for the first time in that it’s kind of a transcendent experience and one that you kind of need to take some time out of your day to wholly appreciate. That’s not to say Invocation can’t be enjoyed in bits and pieces but to really get yer money’s worth of these eight stacked tracks of pure, blissful Rawk then your first time listening needs to be uninterrupted and preferably at loud volumes.

Alice In Chains is one of my all-time favorites. To the point of being almost sacred. So when Layne Staley tragically passed away, I like so many others believed that Alice In Chains was done. They weren’t and today continue to honor the legacy of Staley while cementing their status as living legends in the upper echelons of Hard Rawk and Metal. Speaking of that legacy, it was 1992’s Dirt that helped to catapult the Seattle quartet into those hallowed halls and almost twenty years later Magnetic Eye Records is paying tribute to the iconic record with their latest [Redux] release.
