What a world we live in where the sub-genre of Instrumental Industrial/Electro has such artists like Carpenter Brut putting out the kind of music they do especially with a release such as Leather Temple capping off a 3-album trilogy started on 2018’s Leather Teeth.
Absolutely MASSIVE sounding, Leather Temple begins with the bombast of “Overture (Deus Ex Machina)” before sliding into “Major Threat” which is a major treat with the way it comes shimmering in and expanding into a beats driven force to be reckoned with as Electro sounds just collide and bounce off each other on the best kind of instrumental meaning one that has a “voice” even without a vocalist. Make sense? It will when you listen.
The title track is moving, synchronistic synergy while “She Rules The Ruins” was made to be in the movies. It’s a statement, an announcement that big things are coming as it switches between a Tangerine Dream type of nostalgia mixed with a distinct modern feel. “Start Your Engines” is anthemic, akin to a sonic hurricane with the way this aural odyssey of beeps and boops and beats swirl and spiral about this epic Electro at its’ core with “Neon Requiem” sounding straight out of some ’80’s cyber drama on the telly complete with faux sax to heighten the hyper mood.
“Iron Sanctuary” flows nicely out of that with an iconic intro before the synths start shredding amidst a primal rumble and then “The Misfits/The Rebels” is pure nitrous and a future floor-ready monster for fans to lose their minds to. Rounding out the latest Carpenter Brut effort, “Speed Or Perish” is an ominous omen and seriously sick with the way it manipulates the airwaves into this expansive futuristic dance number and “The End Complete” is like something out of a John Hughes flick at its’ onset then shifts to more ethereal elements taking the spookier parts out of “Thriller” and combining it with modern Darkwave for a fantastic finish to the record.
