We’ll be honest, with the amount of material that Dyr Faser put out, we sometimes find it hard to keep up! And it’s not that we don’t listen to all of what they’re dropping but more that it’s often difficult to either A) not describe what the duo of Eric Boomhower and Amelia May are doing as awesome too many times in a given review or II) come up with enough synonyms for awesome in a given review. All in all, not a bad problem to have and obviously more an “us” problem but we’ll try and work through it in the interest of the Rawk!
But yeah, Dyr Faser is back as they said they would be in our 2026 preview with new LP Racing Team which, if we’re expanding descriptors beyond awesome, is pretty divine.
“Winter Olympics” just exudes cool, and is something we imagine Morphine would’ve put out/produced/at least been a part of at some point if Mark Sandman was still with us, that’s built off a static Groove and May’s haunting vocal lines with instrumentation fading in and out like features in a Jazz number. But in the Alternative Rawk realm. Okay, we were mistaken. It’s actually “Terrace View” that exudes all the cool with Boomhower taking over on vocal duties for a Lou Reed-esque sonic excursion.
We were also mistaken in our earlier haunting claim as “The Death of It” kind of encapsulates all that especially with the way May’s voice laboriously lingers like a spectre. “Taste of Blood” has airs of Thurston Moore within the Sonic Youth framework or Folk Implosion at points, “Desert Floor” is syncopated and altogether serene, sexy, and stoic and “Goldmine of Dreams” is a mover though not necessarily in the frenetic sense but more in the fast-paced yet still suave thanks to that vocal delivery from Boomhower.
Deeper within, “Bad Man” is almost a Beat Poet kind of thing with the way Boomhower’s words ring out encompassed in this burgeoning noise that’s got a little bit of everything in there, “On Going Alone” is an upbeat one that once again showcase’s May’s vigorous vocals and closer “Stare into the Heat of Daylight” is lowkey epic but in a subtle way which is part of the Dyr Faser charm as they continually conjure up some unsuspecting magic in their music.
