Izzy Reign Mixes Dance, Electro, Industrial, And Art Pop Into A Satisfying Sonic Cocktail On Self-Titled Debut

It seems we’ve been talking about Izzy Reign a LOT over in RNRF land with many a shared social media post before launching a brand new column last October called “Spooky SZN Sounds” more or less with the sole purpose of covering IR’s slew of covers around the season before culminating with coverage of original track “Your Entertainer” late last November. And that’s not even mentioning the 2 singles that have come since or the ones that came before but with an album teased along with each press release we wanted to keep it fresh for when the whole shebang was ready to go. Which takes us to today.

Folks fond of Lady Gaga’s more Electro-centric offerings such as ArtPop or the recent Mayhem release or those who’ve bought into the Poppy craze of late (For the record, we dig Poppy as well) are going to find a lot to love here. For us music fans just searching for something new? Original? Izzy Reign is it.

To begin, “The Sunken Place” is a fast-paced opening shot that throws a little bit of everything Izzy Reign has to offer into the mix with some heavy-handed Synth backgrounds cut up by killer riffs and Izzy Reign’s indescribable voice at the helm of this sonic ship. “Phobos” drops in next boasting an especially glorious chorus yet still manages to display just a fraction of Reign’s range with the rest of the song showing off IR’s penchant for creating a similarly wondrous yet haunting atmosphere interspersed with some of the heaviest shredding.

“Broken by Design” is big on beats and lush vocal passages with “Pandora’s Box” practically throwing itself in front of the dance floor GODS asking to be a staple of all your most favorite Dance/Electro/Goth nights. “Bird of Prey” is a tempo test, filled with intricate time signatures and some of the grimiest Izzy Reign vocals thus far during a particularly nasty breakdown while “Into Oblivion” is another that tests the boundaries of IR’s vocal range and might be the one that actually accurately showcases them all with an especially gnarly run angrily tearing up through song’s end.

“Your Entertainer” is kinda modern Pop/Rawk perfection with sing-a-long bits, huge choruses and huger riffs as “It Is Written” arrives as not so much an interlude but more a subtle reset. Most recent single, “Lite-Brite”, is the perfect final preview pounce with bouncy grooves surrounded by a glistening glow and Reign’s cathartic croon hovering over all. “Sandman” has a sinister edge to it and the beats and grooves to match that vibe with Izzy Reign’s vocal flow switching back and forth from salty to serene while ultimately sounding like something that’d be right at home on the 2016 Suicide Squad soundtrack. Parting is such sweet sorrow especially when Izzy Reign closes with such a delicate, piano-driven ditty like “Incarnate” which builds into an empowering anthem before the closing curtain comes down.

Izzy Reign arrives on March 21st through FiXT with pre-order and pre-save options here. For more from Izzy Reign, hop on the information superhighway and head here or here for all the most up-to-date news.
