What if there was a way, say “3 Easy Steps” perhaps, for you to expel all of your bad habits at once? Would you do it? But what if to do that you had to figuratively? Metaphorically? Kill off a physical manifestation of yourself/those bad habits? Could you do it then?
That’s the question posited at our hero Jane (Nicole Murray) and brought to life by Paige Henderson (Who plays “The Silver Woman” and also co-wrote 3 Easy Steps alongside Murray). You see, Jane is at a crossroads. Making endless lists of new things to try yet never accomplishing really anything! So following a break up with her girlfriend (Logan Byam-Taylor) and an afternoon of self reflection that accomplishes, well, nothing Jane resorts to the one place that has all the answers: Google (Fun fact: This is the 2nd short in this round of Salem Horror Fest flicks where Google is a plot point of some sort! Ah, technology!) Which leads to: “3 Easy Steps to kill your old self”. And from there: chaos.
Accenting the Henderson/Murray joint is Director of Photography Olesia Saveleva whose nuanced eye takes the viewer on a particularly trippy trip while Jina Hyojin provides 3 Easy Steps with its’ haunting, harrowing score which brings to mind the despair-laden sounds Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker bring to Yellowjackets.
3 Easy Steps from Svelte Dog Productions is making the rounds on the festival circuit following its’ Massachusetts premiere during the recent 8th edition of Salem Horror Fest. For more on that, and to find out where you can view the film next, head here.
