Is there a Sam Huntington (Being Human, Good Girls, Superman Returns) renaissance that we were not aware of??? We recently caught Huntington in a small role in the big, badass The Last Stop In Yuma County (From director Francis Galluppi and starring the fabulous Jim Cummings, go track it down immediately here) and now in a big role in the small, but still badass Full Moon Glory Hole from Thom Newell. Which we’re all up in now because Salem Horror Fest.
Spurred on by the webcomic of the same name with artist Renton Hawkey (Read it here but viewer beware: Spoilers ahead for the flick… and also, NSFW), Newell brings Full Moon Glory Hole to howling life with help from the team that brought you some of the most memorable modern Horror in the last decade or so (Radio Silence! Scream VI! Ready Or Not! V/H/S!) for some big screen chills on a small scale. Nicole (Courtney Bandeko) is the lone clerk on duty at the gas station convenience store when lone asshole Francis (Huntington) stumbles in looking to cause trouble. Nicole offers Francis an alternative to tame the beast, hijinks ensue.
And by “hijinks” we of course mean horror! Of the bestest kind! There are some things one never needs to see in their life and Full Moon Glory Hole, similar to a bit from the legendary Wolf Cop, offers one such scene that unfortunately has to be, ahem, seen, to truly understand. Anyway, If Leigh Wannell’s Wolf Man wasn’t your bag then Full Moon Glory Hole might not be either… but the werewolf is rad as hell (Part Michael Jackson in Thriller, part John Gries in The Monster Squad) as is the story so maybe if you don’t dig it then you just don’t like fun? Just a thought.
And being music nerds (And running a predominantly music-centric site), we try to highlight the music/score in any given film we review when we can and we’d be doing a huge disservice to our audience if we didn’t point out the chic Full Moon Glory Hole score from Underoath’s resident atmosphere master Chris Dudley (In a Chandler Bing tone: “Have you even heard the new Underoath record yet?” Seriously, though, The Place After This One is on of their greatest to date).
Full Moon Glory Hole made its’ Salem Horror Fest debut during the 8th annual event at the beginning of May. For more from director Newell, head here, here, or here.
