“Observers of existential horrors & everything you wish had happened”
And so it is written in the “about” section on Facebook regarding Ontario’s Another Crush and after hearing single “Empty Promises”, a song about those relationships that you give everything to yet continually are let down by, we’re going to wholeheartedly agree.
But I digress.
There’s something truly endearing about Another Crush and their debut single, “Empty Promises”, echoes that sentiment as the quartet create a stunner of a song that’s one catchy ass anthem. Their secret weapon? Heather Valley, whose vocals truly stand out in a field filled with banality and milquetoast bands trying to sound like someone else. On “Empty Promises” she begins with a breathy almost rasp dropping hints of what’s to come until the chorus shows off her full range.
Driving the beats is Joe Piccolo’s accented attacks behind the kit while Taylor Robertson brings the lead riffs with Valley supplying supplemental rhythm guitar accompaniment as Dave Habza’s bass thumps and throttles listeners to take the song to the upper echelon’s of alt-rawk greatness.
