Much like producer Mark Ronson’s records under his own name, Sam Duckworth exudes a fantabulous flair when stepping out from behind the mixing board and letting his freak flag fly on his own under the moniker of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. And much like Ronson, what Duckworth creates on latest single “Drift” is a far cry from the many collaborations and production credits that already illuminate his name.
Artists like Dele Sosimi, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, and BLAB (Who we’ve reviewed in these pages) already have a feel for the Duckworth sound but for the uninitiated, recently released standalone single “Drift” presents a steady starting point. On “Drift”, Duckworth creates something that defies genres and definitely defies any imaginary boundaries within what he’s previously produced. There’s an inherent swagger here under a whimsical and wondrous cloud accented by horn flourishes and steady piano lines which swell into big grooves with bigger beats. Over it all is Duckworth smoothly singing like this magical maestro to give listeners their most favorite new summer anthem.
“Drift” is out now through Cool Thing Records! You can get yours in a variety of formats when you click here and for the latest on Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly., including info about Duckworth’s upcoming resissue of his debut solo effort, follow the trail of socials when you head here, here, or here.
