You know those bands that might not quite hit for some reason the first time you hear them and then you see them live, revisit everything recorded, and facepalm relentlessly at missing out the first time around? Yeah, that’s us and Paper Tigers. Sort of. Because we’ve definitely covered them before so we definitely dig ’em but damn if seeing them live at the Rock & Roll Rumble this year wasn’t a gotDamn revelation!
But I digress!
Paper Tigers returns with a brand spankin’ new track ahead of a brand spankin’ new album coming later this year (Charmer, currently slated for September) and we could not be more psyched especially if what’s coming sounds anything like what “Wedding Cake” sounds like. Because it’s freaking great. “Wedding Cake” is a scorching summer anthem. Hell, “Wedding Cake” is an anthem regardless of the season. If this is your first taste of the Boston quartet then you picked a good one with Ben “Cutty” Cuthbert and Matthew Hughes conjuring a rhythmic maelstrom on the drums and bass respectively, Bjarki Gudmundsson creating an incessant buzz and buzzsaw-like riffs on guitar, and Michael Medlock holding court behind the pulpit with mic in hand delivering huge choruses and sweeping, broad passages throughout this infectious new album tease.
“Wedding Cake” launches on June 16th and can be all the pre things (Save! Order!) now across all your favorite streaming sites and more when you click here. For the latest from Paper Tigers, including info on upcoming live performances like the one later this summer at the 2nd Annual In Between Days Festival, follow them across ye olde socials when you head here, here, or here.
