The absolute best video for the end of summer to accompany what is easily the absolute best song to herald the oncoming 2024 Spooky Szn, Parlour Bells’ “Slasher Movie Weather” is a haunting and harrowing aural and visual journey… but also a fun and sexy one? Trust us, it makes sense!
The newest track from Boston’s Parlour Bells (And latest tease of the forthcoming new EP, To Be Or Not To Behave) is just about here and features your favorite Bells (Mike Leggio, Michael J. Johnson, Allison Sigrist, Tony Porter, Goddamn Glenn) laying out a soundtrack that’s sure to ease you into the oncoming season subtly yet spectacularly. Suave and sinister to boot, you get to have your resident crooner, Goddman Glenn, acting as a tantalizing tour guide delivering lines like “Disemboweled, something so foul/Cleaned it up with a beach towel” with an eerie elegance as Sigrist’s keys channel all things Halloween, The Exorcist, and Phantasm. Rounding out the rue morgue reverie is Johnson and some sick shreds and soloing befitting the ’80’s video tone along with Porter and Leggio bringing a riveting rhythmic riposte on their respective drums and bass.
Now let it be known that we love us some Horror in the RNRF offices! All the Salem Horror Fest coverage that we lovingly bombard you with in late April is partly to provide you with content but a lot so that we can binge as much new Horror as (in)humanly possible. That said, there’ve been plenty of ’80’s Slasher-inspired videos over the years but we don’t think there’s ever been one as gor(y)geous (To be fair, we’re talking both the performers and band members here) as “Slasher Movie Weather”. Co-directed by PB’s own vocalist Goddamn Glenn and creative partner/partner-in-life Honey Pie, the visual (Or is that “visceral”) accompaniment to PB’s newest boasts a cast of some of Boston’s most bodacious burlesque performers including HP as well as Pearl Buttons, Tracey “Muthafuckin” Vaughan, Maggie Marraschino, and Abby Normal who all may or may not make it to the end.
A full on collaborative affair, behind the scenes of “Slasher Movie Weather” also features Marraschino and Vaughan handling makeup, special effects, and prosthetics which positively Pop on local drummer Mark Goveia who cameos along with Glenn who might have to change his moniker from “Goddamn” to “Ghoulish” for this track and an on screen presence that reminds us of Jack from An American Werewolf In London. But that’s not all because Vaughan pulls triple duty here supplying her red 1987 Volkswagen Cabriolet convertible which is prominently featured as the vehicle of choice towards an ill-fated camping excursion!
“Slasher Movie Weather” and the accompanying video are out on August 16th ahead of the To Be Or Not To Behave EP slated for release later in September. You can bookmark this link here to get the song as soon as it drops and for more from Parlour Bells, follow the socials by clicking here and here.
